CLOSING THIS MESSAGE BOARD
I am thinking about closing this message board. I like the board and have a lot of good memories of the conversations, pictures and goings on here. But.. it seems like Facebook has replaced message boards as the preferred way to communicate. Our FB page (Vol Campers on FaceBook) is much more active,, but doesn't offer some of the same benefits..
I really hate for people to visit this site and see the inactivity..
What are your thoughts?

Yes I can see the redundancy of having this AND fb group. I check this board from time to time.I would say if its costing you anything you might reconsider having it. I am not really sure what advantages/disadvantages one has over the other.

Re: CLOSING THIS MESSAGE BOARD
Well, I'm new here but hate to see it closed down. There is potential here to have a good local camping forum and I refuse to use Facebook. Plenty of people still use forums but most of that rv forum crowd is over at rv.net or irv2.com, the former is where I found out about this place. So, do what you need to do Chuck but I vote for keeping it open assuming the hosting costs are free or close to free. If you need donations just ask.

I also check here about once or twice a week as well as Facebook, but I am really tiring of Facebook and so much drama and negativity.
So, as long as it's not too much trouble, I would really like to keep this forum open.

Facebook is a lot more active, but I use this board as a reference. There's a lot of info here on best sites in parks, how to info, and just lots of fun trips down memory lane. Plus, Facebook could change rules for groups at any time. One other thing, this is a place to put things that you want the group to know, but don't necessarily want everyone in your Facebook universe to know about. I can goof off here and my boss doesn't know.

Thanks for the responses.. It really doesn't cost very much. I'll keep it up and running for now. In the meantime.. gonna try and find a way to drive traffic back here via FB. Maybe post link to events and things on FB .. but try and get the comment in this forum. I don't know.. just thinking out loud.
must have been gone a long time

I only use the message board. I don't do the facebook thing. Chuck, you could always set up a page at www dot gofundme dot com. I've seen other boards funded this way. I know I would be happy to contribute!

Thanks.. I wish this message board was as active as it used to be.. It will stay up.. The $$ isn't a big deal.
Re: CLOSING THIS MESSAGE BOARD
I know I won't remember, but if you will mention it at the campout, I will slip you a few greenbacks to keep it up and running.
I check this message board first thing every morning, even before I go to FB.

Re: CLOSING THIS MESSAGE BOARD
Aren't there some free alternatives for the forum board? I guess I should get with the program and do the Facebook thing. I just can't bring myself to do it yet. Seems everyone I know, including kin, are on Facebook! I'm working on a website that, depending on how things go with it, I might be able to host a forum on it. I don't have a lot of time to devote to it as of now, work keeps getting in the way. It's more of a thing for when we are able to retire. I enjoy doing it but it just takes time. It's a free wix site right now but I may pony up for a real site one day. It's not much right now but it's a work in progress.
