A new toy for the "chef"!
This past weekend we went to a little town called Eagle Rock, VA to get a camper top for my truck. (Hard to find locally because of stepside) Anyway, We were right at Roanoke and just had to make the stop at Gander Mtn. and Camping World at exit 146.
While in Gander Mtn. I found just what I need to help my Dutch Oven cooking---a cooking table.
Then to make it even better when the clerk said it was the last one Lisa told him he ought to mark it down. He did!! He took $10 off because it was his last one. Pretty nice way to do business!
Now I am ready to learn even more ways to feed my camping friends!!

Re: A new toy for the "chef"!
On Sunday afternoon I as at a flea market in Kingsport. I pointed to a stack of about a half dozen aluminum walkers that were priced at about $10 each. I told my wife that most people look at that and see walkers for old folks. I see one with a metal shelf or grate built across it for my dutch ovens. LOL.
This keeping up with Don is killing me! Especially on my budget.
My wife didn't let me get one, but I may sneak back up there. It would fold up nicely. I've just got to figure the shelf out first.

Alan, you could hinge mount that 3-burner stove on one of these walkers and have a great portable outdoor stove.

Don, before I launch into my mutation of an aluminum walker, how much would a real table for dutch ovens set me back? and do they fold up?
Re: A new toy for the "chef"!
Generally the tables are around $80 at Gander Mtn. and shipping is free. They can go as high as $200 and up for the Lodge brand. Mine is Camp Chef and their stuff is good quality.Richard wrote:Don, before I launch into my mutation of an aluminum walker, how much would a real table for dutch ovens set me back? and do they fold up?
As for folding, the legs are removable but it does not actually fold up. Folding would be a nice feature though.

I'm not sure when I'll be heading back up to that flea market, but they seemed to have a generous supply. I'll get you one next time I go. (I'm so proud to not be alone in re-engineering stuff for the camper!)

Just think, Richard converts a walker into a table for dutch oven, then when he gets older, he can re-do it back to its original function.

Re: A new toy for the "chef"!
I bought 2 used aluminum walkers today at the flea market. $16.43 for both "out the door". Now to make the fold-down table tops.
(And Don, while Alan and I might look funny using our aluminum walkers for cooking tables, you would look even more silly if you ever used your cooking table as a walker.)
